Alliance Programme for
Health, Peace and Social Justice
Preamble
This preamble outlines the foundations and aims of our work. It forms an integral and inalienable part of our movement.
The International Alliance for Health, Peace and Social Justice regards itself as a global movement which aims to create a healthy, peaceful and just world. This movement unites peoples of all nations, cultures, races and creeds. We come from both rich and poor countries, from North, South, East and West. We are united in the desire to create a world of health, peace and social justice.
For decades we have relied on national and international political institutions that promised to help create such a world. At the beginning of the 21 st century, however, we are forced to recognise that we are further than ever from establishing a healthy, peaceful and just world.
The greatest obstacles to attaining these goals and enshrining them as fundamental human rights are vested company interest groups that regard the planet as their property and us, the inhabitants of this planet, as their market place. Political leaders in many countries are little more than agents acting for global multinationals, sacrificing people’s fundamental rights to these vested interest groups.
The globalisation of company groups, and the expanding dominion of their financial interests, directly affect and endanger the lives of all people on our planet:
- Millions of people throughout the world die of diseases that might long since have been eradicated. The appalling fact that these diseases continue to exist in epidemic proportions is solely due to one cause alone: such illnesses serve as markets for a multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical investment industry.
- Millions of people in industrialised countries live without work and in dire poverty. In addition, in the developing world, hundreds of millions of people live in inhuman conditions of hunger, malnutrition and illiteracy. All this misery has a common cause: the unjust distribution of our planet’s wealth and resources.
- The whole of humanity is increasingly under threat from crises and wars that arise chiefly from the greed and interests of multinational groups seeking to consolidate the unjust distribution of wealth by political and military means.
We, the people, have grown aware that it is not by chance that fundamental human rights to health, peace and social justice are not yet enjoyed by all our planet’s inhabitants. We have also realised that if we, our children and grandchildren wish to live in such a world, we must take responsibility for it now. To attain this goal, we are creating an international movement sustained by the people and working for the people.
The Fundamental Principles We Adhere To
A series of fundamental principles determine the work of our global movement. These principles are an inalienable basis for our political movement and integral to the attainment of our goal to create a healthy, peaceful and just world:
- All people on our planet are equal and have the same right to health, security and a life of dignity. This is the basis for a world of health, peace and social justice, and we will ensure that all obstacles that prevent the world’s people enjoying these rights are removed.
- Our planet, and its regions, waters, sky and territories belong to all human beings. We guarantee that these resources will be justly distributed, affording all the planet’s inhabitants a life worthy of them and that these resources will be preserved for future generations.
- The riches of our planet and everything it contains belongs to all human beings. We guarantee that these riches will be justly distributed to enable all the world’s inhabitants to lead a life of dignity.
- Our own bodies – whether in sickness or health – belong to each one of us. We guarantee that health care will serve the prevention and eradication of diseases – rather than their further spread as markets for patented medicines.
- The human genome, the inherited DNA that is common to all humanity, belongs to each one of us. The genome of animals and plants is also proper and integral to them and cannot be bought or sold. We will outlaw the patenting of nature in the interests of company group profits.
The Goals To Which We Are Committed
Our Alliance for Health, Peace and Social Justice undertakes to realise the following clear goals:
- A world without disease. We will pass laws prohibiting misuse of our bodies by an investment industry based on spreading diseases as markets for patented medicines and multinational profits. We will use knowledge already available to effectively prevent diseases, cure them and eradicate them. We will place the health system under public control and thus make available to all people effective, economical health care, free of side effects. We will promote medical research in order to eradicate diseases and ensure that such knowledge can be shared free of charge by all people, above all in developing countries. The end of the pharmaceutical ‘business with disease’ is a precondition for eradicating illnesses. These clear measures will save millions of human lives and billions in health-care costs.
- A world of social justice. Every inhabitant of our planet has the right to a life of dignity. To make this right a reality for billions of people throughout the world requires political will and the means to finance such a global development programme. We urge political leaders and institutions the world over to unite their forces with ours in order to attain this goal.
The means to put an end to unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, epidemics and the destitution of millions of people will be drawn from three primary sources:
- The end of the pharmaceutical “business with disease”. By replacing this private investment industry with a publicly controlled health system, most of today’s endemic diseases will vanish. Billions of dollars in costs previously paid to pharmaceutical groups will then become available to construct a world of health and social justice.
- Renewable energy, including hydrogen energy, is already available to put an end to all dependency on expensive fossil fuels. Hydrogen energy – energy derived from water – is already being used to drive cars and generate electricity. The widespread application of this and other forms of renewable energy can supply cities and countries throughout the world with economical energy. The billions of dollars so far paid to petrochemical company groups will thus also be released to finance this global development programme.
- Multinational profits are a further important source for funding the goal of a life of dignity for all people on the planet. While we support private initiative in all areas, we guarantee that the wealth of multinationals will not simply serve a small group of speculators and shareholders, but that legislation will be put in place to fund the needs of the whole of society. Large company groups in all areas of business must be transferred to public ownership and control, and serve the social requirements of the world’s people.
- A world without warfare. Wars are chiefly waged in order to serve multinational interests throughout the globe. That is why the principles that lead us on the path to a socially just world are at the same time the most important measures for maintaining world peace. At an international level we aim to establish a new world parliament, an “Alliance of Nations” in which the same rights are accorded equally to all nations, in particular based on the principle of “one country – one vote”.
In our efforts to attain these goals we are not led by ideologies but by the scientific analysis of economic, social and other problems, resulting in scientifically based solutions that put the interests of human beings first.
We will found new organisations independent of governments, political parties and existing international organisations, dedicated to the principle “of the people – for the people” and the goal of a healthy, peaceful and just world.
We appeal to all our planet’s citizens to join us. We can save millions of human lives, put an end to the misery of billions of people and create a world of health, peace and social justice – now!
