2002: The Strasbourg Declaration

At the beginning of the 3 rd millennium, Europe stands at a crossroads. On the one hand are the interests of 700 million people and their desire to build a future in dignity, prosperity, health and peace. On the other hand are international interest groups, the forces of economic globalization, considering Europe primarily as their marketplace and the political leaders of Europe as executors of their will.

These globally operating interest groups have already occupied the highest positions of the emerging political system in Europe . Among the basic rights most directly compromised by these forces of globalization and – at the same time – the most urgent rights to be protected by a new European Constitution are the following: the rights to life, health, freedom, democracy, social justice and peace.

A declaration outside the European Parliament building in Strasbourg on April 9, 2003 , pledged allegiance to this new Constitution holding our political representatives responsible for implementing it.
